MINUTES OF THE FACULTY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE OF THE ACADEMIC SENATE November 29, 2000 1:00 p.m. Jesse Phillips 470 Presiding: Frances Pestello Present: Korte, Palermo, Gerla, Pestello, Dandaneau, Conte, Yungblut, Cherrington, Miner 1. I-00-13 Faculty Workload Guidelines: The Committee discussed meeting on the 13th of December with representatives of the Faculty Development Committee. Committee members decided to schedule this meeting early in the next semester, after we get feedback from each of the divisions on their use of the current Guidelines. 2. I-98-11 Lecturer Representation on the Senate: The Committee will schedule open meetings with the faculty towards the end of February right before the faculty vote. The vote will probably be conducted in early March 3. Dr. Palermo distributed and presented the Faculty Compensation. The Committee discussed the highlights of this report. Dr. Cherrington discussed some of the pressures on the budget that will become evident in the next few years. In particular, salary compression, market pressures on the salaries for new faculty. The Committee also dicussed the need for credible benchmarks across divisions, similar to what the College has done with CUPA data. Committee members were also concerned with strategies for addressing equity across divisions and gender inequities. 4. I-98-24 Evaluation of Administrators: The Committee agrees that this issue is much more important than when it was originally raised. Committee members feel strongly that there must be a way to affect how service is delivered. With the hiring of the CIO and the development of the Learning Village, processes need to be developed for faculty input. The FAC feels that the committee to establish evaluation procedures and guidelines needs to be formed as the Faculty Handbook requires; however, it is critical how the committee is formed. The Senate should have input on the formation of this committee. The FAC will write a proposal for the formation of this committee early next semester. 5. The meeting adjourned at 1:55. 6. This is the final meeting for the 2000 Faculty Affairs Committee of the Academic Senate. |
