ACADEMIC
POLICIES COMMITTEE MINUTES Meeting
Time: 8:00 am Sept. 21, 2001 Handouts:
James Dunne provided a final draft of the wording of legislation to be put
before the Senate regarding impacts of the new +/- grading system on
existing University policy. This will be Senate document No. 1-00-16. 1.
The minutes of the Sept. 14, 2001 meeting of the APC were approved. 2. Approval of the Proposal to Academic Senate James
Dunne provided the committee with a draft of the legislation regarding the
impacts of the new +/- grading system on existing University policy. This
proposal is Senate document No. 1-00-16 and is entitled, ‘Undergraduate
Academic Policies Affected by the New +/- Grading System.” The
members of the APC approved the final draft of the proposal pending an
investigation, prompted by an inquiry from Gordon Sargent, regarding the
possible conflict of current special agreements made for accepting
transfer credit for students coming to UD from Sinclair Community College
with both the current policy of not accepting transfer credit for students
with a grade below C and the provision in the proposal changing this
policy to not accepting transfer credit for courses with a grade below C-.
It was agreed that Joe Saliba would look into possible conflicts and bring
them to the attention of the APC before the October meeting of the full
Senate. The final draft of the legislation was provisionally approved. It
was agreed that unless the possible conflict with special agreements with
Sinclair necessitated a change in wording, the wording in the final draft
would be used in the proposal to be brought before the full senate at the
Oct. 12 meeting. The
meeting adjourned at 8:20. Submitted by Leno Pedrotti. |
