2. Jim
Dunne noted that Steve Dandaneau and Tom Westendorf were not able to attend the
meeting to finalize plans for the proposed Honors/Scholars designations.
3. Quantitative
Reasoning Competency Status:
Jim
Dunne reported that the APC should soon receive a summary document from Paul
Eloe regarding the current status of the Quantitative Reasoning Competency.
Apparently the Competencies implementation Subcommittee (CIS) has not yet
reached agreement on possible changes to the Quantitative Reasoning Competency. The document from Paul Eloe will presumably
summarize the current status of the discussions related to the proposed changes
that have taken place in meetings of the CIS. This issue will likely come to
the APC for discussion soon and so Jim Dunne provided the approved Quantitative
Reasoning Competency Senate Document for background purposes.
4. General Education 2002 Subcommittee Status:
Dave Biers reported via email prior to the meeting that the subcommittee tasked with a review of the Rationale and Goals portion of the General Education Policy document had met and begun work on possible revisions to the document. The subcommittee will not complete its task in time to bring a proposal to the full senate this semester.
5. Administrative Responsibility for General Education:
Pat Johnson provided the committee via email a nearly final draft of the proposed changes to the “administrative responsibility” section of the General Education Policy document. Some final wording issues were discussed. The discussion revolved around clarifying the roles of the associate provost and the associate dean with regards to facilitating university-wide discussions of general education. In particular, it was suggested that the document needs to be very clear in assignment of responsibilities so that future representatives from the offices of the Dean and the Provost are each clear as to their responsibilities to facilitate university wide discussion of general education. A final draft of the revisions to the “administrative responsibility” section of the General Education Policy document will likely be finished in time to bring a proposal to the full Senate at the April meeting.
