Minutes of Student Academic Policies Committee
March 5, 2001
3:00 – 3:50 pm in KU 207
Senators Present: Bartley, DeConinck, Doyle, Eimermacher, Ilg,
Lechleiter, McKenna
The committee discussed two questions, both having to do with the
selection of a new president of the university. The first issue was what
should the Academic Senate convey to the presidential search consultant.
The university should have a president that lives by the motto:
learn, lead, and serve.
Must understand the needs of the student body. We are a community;
the president must be part of that community.
Is open-minded and committed to student issues.
Is respectful of the student body, and has the ability to gain
student support.
Must realize that there is a close connection between the students
and the administration.
Must be experienced and comfortable with young adults.
Should have an on-campus presence.
The presidential candidates should have an open forum with the
students.
The second issue was what questions should the ECAS ask the
presidential candidates.
How would you maintain contact with the students?
What are expectations in dividing your time between campus activities
and off-campus activities?
What are your thoughts on student diversity? Does it need to be
increased? How would you go about increasing it?
