One of the most treasured architectural achievements on the University of Dayton campus, St. Joseph Hall was built by Marianist brothers in 1884 as a residence hall.  It now houses the social sciences, including the departments of sociology, anthropology and social work, political science, psychology, criminal justice and communication.  The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work is on the fourth floor.

Although destroyed by fire at Christmas 1987, the building was reconstructed using the original frame and foundation in 1989.
