Alpha Kappa Delta is the international Honor Society in Sociology. It derives its name from the first letters of the three Greek words that together signify the Society's goal: To study humankind for the purpose of service. The Department inducts majors who meet the qualifications at the annual ceremony in the spring as part of a program that includes a keynote speaker. Requirements for Eligibility
Process of Membership Each year, Dr. Patrick Donnelly, the department's AKD chapter representative, notifies eligible majors and invites them to join AKD. In the spring, the department holds the AKD induction ceremony in conjunction with the Annual Stanley L. Saxton Alpha Kappa Delta Address. The one-time cost (approximately $40) for lifetime membership includes a one-year subscription to the journal Sociological Inquiry.
