The Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work Student Organization (SASSO) is comprised of majors, minors, and interested others who meet and sponsor various activities and programs such as student-faculty socials, film series, guest speakers, and graduate school panels.

2006-07 Events

A welcoming reception for students and faculty was held in September 2006 at Art Street and preceded the Urban Nights events in downtown Dayton. Below is a list of scheduled meetings for Fall Term, 2006:

  • Thursday, September 28 at 4 p.m. in SJ 434. Video and discussion. Planning session.
  • Wednesday, October 25 at 7 p.m. in SJ 413. Planning for Winter 2007 scheduling. Course syllabi available for review. Student-to-student discussion about course material, instructors, and advising.
  • Tuesday, November 28 at 6 p.m. in SJ 413. Faculty members Dr. Leslie Picca and Dr. Dwight Haase discuss experiences with application and admission into graduate school. Discussion and Q&A.
  • Following events to be announced.

Recent Past Events

The Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work Student Organization, under the guidance of Drs. Paul Becker and Leslie Picca sponsored and participated in a variety of events during the 2005-06 academic year. Events included:

  • A video and panel discussion was presented by UD students who had returned from Biloxi, MS after Hurricane Katrina.
  • A graduate school discussion was led by faculty who are “recent” PhDs.
  • Faculty research was presented by Dr. Frances Pestello, entitled “Medication, Self, and the Internet.”
  • A presentation just prior to registration discussed course offerings and provided guidance in scheduling for the following semester.
