SASSO

The Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work Student Organization is comprised of majors, minors, and interested others who meet and sponsor various activities and programs such as student-faculty socials, film series, guest speakers, and graduate school panels.

bulletThe first SASSO meeting of the 2002-03 academic year was held in September, with more than 20 students in attendance. Attending students had an opportunity to speak with faculty members about graduate school and other topics of interest in a relaxed and casual setting.

On November 18, 2002, SASSO sponsored an informal reception for Steve Scanlon, a UD grad and Professor of Sociology at the University of Memphis. Steve spoke to the gathering about his experiences with graduate school and his various research projects. He was on campus to give the keynote address, kicking off Hunger Awareness Week.

A brown bag luncheon was held in February 2003 to give students and faculty the opportunity to listen to UD grad Meagan Lyon talk about her experiences with her Learn, Lead, and Serve Grant in Morocco. She also drummed up interest in the benefit dinner slated for Feb. 21, 2003 for Darna, a home for street children in Tangier, Morocco.

AKD

It derives its name from the first letters of the three Greek words that together signify the Society's goal: To study humankind for the purpose of service. The Department inducts majors who meet the qualifications at the annual ceremony in the spring as part of a program that includes a keynote speaker.
