Rules - 2006
A team consists of at least one student and
at most three students.
Students sign up in teams on the
registration page.
Round 1 & 2 (Single elimination):
A certain number of teams (3-5, depending on the number of teams
signed up) will have three minutes to evaluate an integral. Only the teams
which correctly evaluate the integral will advance to the next round. If
all of these teams correctly evaluate the integral, they all advance. Any
team which is not successful in evaluating the integral is eliminated from the
competition. If all these teams are not able to correctly evaluate the
integral within the three minutes, the next set of teams will have two minutes to attempt to evaluate the same
integral. If the entire second set of teams fail, a new integral is presented to the
third set of teams.
Each team has one "life line" which can be used in either of the first two rounds. The team may solicit advice (not the solution) from a member of the audience. The "advisor" may verbally communicate advice to the team for at most 30 seconds. Note: all teams will be able to hear the advice given.
Round 3 & Above (Lightning rounds):
All
teams that are still in the competition work on the same integral at the same
time. The first "x" number of teams to correctly evaluate the integral
advance to the next round. An incorrect evaluation by the team constitutes
immediate elimination.
Eloe's Technology Challenge:
After the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams have been determined, these teams will a chance to "beat technology". It will be a faculty member versus the student teams.
