The area of Visual Communication Design at the University of Dayton
prepares students for entry into the complex field of visual communication
while educating them for future leadership roles or for continued develop-
ment in graduate school. We are committed to an educational experience
that aims to produce students who possess a broad prospective of the field;
an understanding of the historic and social implications of the discipline;
a dedication to their role as a communicator both within the profession
and society; the necessary visual, creative, and technical skills essential
for their success; and a portfolio that exemplifies their knowledge and
ability
. A dedicated visual communication designer must prove to be a
generator of ideas, an investigator, an inventor, and effective communi-
cator through written and verbal means. We therefore recognize and
acknowledge the importance of art history, fine arts, photography and
general academic studies to our program.

The integration of these disciplines with the rigorous visual communication
design curriculum prepares students to be responsible shapers of society
in their professional and personal lives.

The area of Visual Communication Design offers fields of study in
Graphic Design
and Computer Imaging.
