Successful Weight Loss – It All Starts With Motivation

Motivation is one of the most important factors in successful weight loss. If motivation isn’t there, success won’t be either! It’s motivation that provides the will to keep at it until you reach your weight loss goal. And perseverance that keeps you going when your motivation dips, as it will.

For many people, this is where their weight loss ambitions start to go wrong. They simply aren’t motivated enough to persevere. They may start with good intentions. Buy in a heap of healthy food, take out a gym membership, plan where they’re going to walk or jog daily for the next week.

Then reality sets in. The healthy food is boring and preparing it requires effort. It’s so much easier to go back to getting takeaway. The gym is too much hard work. All that equipment and ‘stuff’ you have to use. Yikes. And you have make time to do it. Even the daily walking regime has turned out to be downright boring.

This is where perseverance will help you stick with it but if you don’t have this ….

….it all falls in a heap. All those good intentions flown out the window! Motivation provides the glue that keeps everything intact. Perseverance keeps you going even when times get tough.

When Your Weight Loss Intentions Go Out The Window

The best way to start a weight loss program and stick with it is to find your why. A why that is bigger and more powerful than all the why nots you’ll encounter along the way. A why that motivates you to get up every morning and do what needs to be done!

What Is Your Why For Losing Weight?

What is your why? What is the one thing that will motivate you above all others to stick with a weight loss program? Perhaps you’ve been told by your doctor that you’re headed for an early grave if you don’t lose weight? That would work, if you want to live. Or you want to be able to play with your children, and their children? Another excellent why, so long as the playing involves something more strenuous than simply exercising your fingers playing computer games with them!

Maybe you’ve noticed that your children are also becoming unhealthily overweight because they’re copying the example you’re setting for them. That’s another big motivator. It’s all very well to dice with your own life but when it comes to the lives of your nearest and dearest, that’s a whole new ball game. Or perhaps you’re just tired of the physical and emotional stress that goes with being overweight.

Follow Up The Why With The How You’re Going To Lose Weight

So having determined your why, it’s time to work on the how. Set yourself some weight loss goals and commit to meeting them. Make your short-term goals achievable so you feel like you’re getting somewhere when you meet them. Adopt the mindset that obstacles are made to go over, through or around. Remove the words ‘can’t’ and ‘give up’ from your vocabulary.

Plan a diet and exercise routine that is doable. There’s no point planning to spend an hour at the gym for instance if you don’t have a spare hour, there’s no gym close by or you hate gyms. That’s just setting yourself up for failure right from the start. You’d be better off investing in or hiring some gym equipment and working out at home instead or finding an alternative form of exercise that you’re comfortable doing. Because being comfortable with your new diet and exercise regime is one of the best ways to ensure you remain motivated to persevere with it.

And speaking of diet, you can also look into dietary supplements that will help with your weight loss. Shark Tank weight loss pills for example will help but they can’t do it all on their own either.
