Metro Dayton Hikers HIKE SCHEDULEMar, 2015 thru Sep, 2015 All hikes start promptly at 1:30 PM unless otherwise noted, each month, on the first, third and fifth (if it exists) Sunday. The pace is BRISK: hikes may not be suitable for children or other slow walkers. Also, due to the restrictions at many of the hiking locations, members are asked not to bring pets. DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY CODES: “A” = EASY, NO HILLS “B” = MODERATE, SOME HILLS “C” = DIFFICULT, VERY HILLY IN SPOTS “D” = RUGGED, FOR EXPERIENCED HIKERS ONLY March 15 Mar 2015 – Englewood MetroPark (WEST Park). 5-6 miles, 2 ½ hours “B”. Take SR 48 (North Main Street) north past I70 and north of the Englewood Dam to 100 E. National Road (US 40). Note that US 40 actually follows SR 48 for a few blocks north of the dam and then turns west again. The park entrance is at the intersection of US 40 and SR 48 at the traffic light where US 40 turns west again. 29 Mar 2015 – Sugarcreek MetroPark. 5 miles, 2 ½ hours “C”. From I 675, follow Wilmington Pike south past SR725. Continue less than a mile past SR725 to the intersection of Conference Road with Wilmington Pike. Turn left onto Conference Road. 26 Apr 2015 – Twin Creek MetroPark. 7 miles, 3 hours “D”. Take SR-4 about a mile south of Germantown to Eby Road. Turn left onto Eby Road. Use entrance at 9688 Eby Road. Meet at the White Oak Camp, 2606 Hilton Drive, Kettering, Ohio. Traveling north on South Dixie from Dorothy Lane, turn right (east) at Glenbeck Avenue. We will meet at the Germantown MetroPark sledding hill parking lot located at 6206 Boomershine Road (north of the Nature Center and just south of Manning Road) and hike along the backpacking trail between Germantown and Twin Creek MetroParks. Take SR-4 (Germantown Road) south from Dayton. Proceed to Manning Road. Turn right (west) onto Manning Road. Proceed a couple of miles to Boomershine Road. Turn left onto Boomershine Road. 21 Jun 2015 – Charleston Falls Preserve. 4 miles, 1 ½ hours “B”. 2535 Ross Road. Go north on SR202 (Old Troy Pike) about a mile past US 40 to Ross Road. 05 Jul 2015 – John Bryan/Clifton Gorge. 5-6 miles, 3 hours “D”. From the north edge of Yellow Springs, go east on SR343, then south on SR370 to John Bryan State Park. Meet in the first parking lot (on the right) just beyond the park office.
19 Jul 2015 – Sycamore State Park. 8 miles, 3 hours “B”. Address: 4675 North Diamond Mill Road, Trotwood, Ohio 45426. Take Wolf Creek Pike west out of Trotwood to Diamond Mill Road. Turn right and proceed north to Providence Road. Turn left on Providence Road. Follow signs to park. Meet at Normandy Elementary School parking lot at 401 Normandy Ridge Road. Take I-75 north from Dayton past I-70. Exit I75 at US40 (exit 63). Travel east on US40 to dam. Note that US40 turns right (south) onto Brown School Road, and then turns left (east) again toward the dam. Cross the dam. Use entrance 2101 US40 on the EAST side of the dam.
