Stewart sends a message to Geraldine Ferraro and Reverend Jeremiah Wright to let them know they’re not helping the candidates they support. While Ferraro’s over-simplified assumption, that if Obama weren’t Obama he wouldn’t be where he is, seemed rather bigoted to many people, myself included, I’m still having trouble understanding what was so bad about what Jeremiah Wright said.

Sure, Wright’s kind of blunt honesty isn’t what you want to associate with a presidential campaign resting on a foundation of bullshit, but he did not make disparaging remarks towards anyone. In short, the key difference between Ferraro’s statement and Wright’s is that the pastor’s criticisms were directed at a racist and oppressive American political system rather than towards the superficial soap opera of a black guy versus a white woman. He was actually addressing a real problem.
